a very scarce item of Lifeboat literature. the tubular life-boat 'Challenger' was built by William Lees in Manchester to a design of Henry T.Richardson of Bala, Merionethshire. The name 'Challenger' chosen as she was designed to challenge the existing RNLI lifeboat vessels, and the first part of the book records her voyage down the Manchester Ship Canal to Liverpool, and trials around the coast. the second part of the book comprises the log of the 'Challenger' on a voyage around the coast of Wales and England, from Liverpool to London. the work is interspersed with newspaper reports, letters, etc. of the period. a nice tidy copy in the original embossed blue cloth, with gilt edges and lettering to the front board. presentation inscription from 'the authors' to Edward Lloyd, Esq. of Rhagatt, near Corwen. 012 018 904
